Michael Hauge explains how his definition of foreshadowing is if something that is unbelievable is going to happen in a movie to make it so it is believable without changing the scene you have to make it credible by giving the character a past which allows them to do what they are going to do without it being abnormal for them to do so.

Its interesting how many different ways foreshadowing can be done and how subtle/obvious it can be. Once you watch a movie for the second time where you already know the ending it is much easier to spot where it was foreshadowed earlier in the film. It is a very clever technique in how it is done where certain things are said which later happen or we see something in the background which we don’t question until later.
Foreshadowing and suspense are different but can be linked. when you foreshadow it can add suspense to your film because it makes the audience anticipate what is going to happen next and can make more things believable for certain characters. In Sean the dead it literally tells you what is going to happen the next day but because it is said like a metaphor we don’t realise that we’ve already been told the whole story, I like this because its clever the way it is done and you probably won’t notice unless you watch it more than once where you can make the link. However sometimes when you see an event being foreshadowed you will forget it until it is relevant where you will think back to the point in the story where it hints that it was going to happen and therefore makes more sense and makes it more believable than it would be on its own.
Good good good Caragh — this is solid research with strong context provided in your notes. Keep it coming.
