Project proposal

I have decided to do my research project about foreshadowing and building tension, This can be useful for different genres of film however probably most common for horror/crime films for example in a horror scene.

For my project I am going to look into how and when to use foreshadowing and how you can use it to build tension and give the audience a subtle hint at what is going to happen next. I will research foreshadowing building up my knowledge on it for the first 2 to 3 weeks so I have a bigger understanding of how it works without giving the rest of the story away, After I have researched it then I will test different ideas for a sequence I can Crete where foreshadowing and tension is involved so that I an showing what I have learned and proving I understand what it is an how it works.

This is important to me because it interests me as to how different film makers use it or even writers and what they use it for and how it can add to tension, I enjoy watching scary scenes because they make you feel on edge and in the moment of the film which helps draw you in. I want to be able to draw people in to my films the same way so it feels like its real.

To do my research I will watch youtube videos and read articles as well as look out for it in films I watch. I will also try and do practical tests to see what works and what doesn’t. I will try and do a survey to find out what the public like to watch and what makes them feel tension and if they usually pick up on foreshadowing whilst they are watching the film.

I think my biggest challenges will be coming up with ideas and making them work and making sure I have enough time for each thing I need do I will try and overcome these by being organised and having a time schedule swell as brainstorming ideas early on so I have more time to think about it and can produce the best wok I can without it being rushed.

During this project I think I will learn any skills and more about the film industry I general as well as more in depth in this specific area for example I will learn more independent skills and how to organise my time well at the same time as learning about things I’m interested in which will all benefit me for different projects in the future and help prepare me for the FMP.
