Get it loud in libraries

I have chosen the band ‘Bodega’ to research and write about them performing in Lancaster library. I visited the library to take some photos about a week ago and here are the photos I took:

It is quite a big library so room for a few different cameras dotted around. I would put the band in front of the big window to the right when you walk in, this is quite an open space so audience will be able to see and there will be enough space for the instruments/equipment. I should also be able to get some good camera angles from varies places, I am choosing to do an offline edit because it will look neater and the video will be better and more entertaining to watch. Because I have helped plan and film/edit 2 times already it helps knowing what to do with the practise I have had, Bootleggers was the first one which was an online edit which meant we didn’t have to look back and edit the footage and helped us understand how it works in real life and that communication is key so everyone knows what they are doing. When Kendal collective came in to record was our second time being able to film live things using a multicamera set up which also gave me more knowledge about how everything works. When the band were going to do a sound check I would listen carefully and walk around to look at whats going on and get a feel for the song so I can know the songs a bit before filming which would be useful to know where cameras should be when and what instruments are in what song and how much of them at what part. Most music videos tend to cut on a beat in the song which is easier to do in offline editing because if you get it wrong you can change it. To set up I would put the video village in the section next to the stage because it is easy accessible for the wires to get to without being in bad places and the editor/director should be able to see what is going on.img_6950I would place a camera facing the stage directly in the middle on a tripod and use this as a safety camera if none of the other cameras had a shot I was looking for. I would then have a mobile camera on a tripod to the front left of the stage focused mainly on drums/guitar and the same on the right but focused on the vocals/guitars with a slider along the front. A handheld could go to the front right to make the viewer feel like the audience, My final camera would go behind the stage looking at the audience. I have chosen this set up because it gets a variety of close and wide shots and can focus on different things at different times as well as having shots you can always rely on if none of them are good. It also has some shots with a bit of movement to make the video more interesting.

To make sure the event is safe the cables would be out of the way so they cant get wrapped around anybody’s feet and nobody will fall over them. The cables will go up the wall and along to the video village. The audience will have a bit of a barrier a couple meters away from the stage so the camera equipment isn’t knocked over. It is quite a big space for the audience but to stop it getting too crowded where injuries are more likely only a limited amount of tickets can be sold and bouncers will be at the door to stop anyone else getting in. Also to make sure the fire doors arnt blocked by anything and it is easy to exit the building if it is needed for any reason in an emergency.

Schedule:

9am- drive to venue with equipment and unpack

9:30- set up equipment/make sure everything is working

10:30- watch the band do a soundcheck/ maybe film some

11:30- make sure everything is ready and safe for the event

12:00- eat and rest

7:30- be back at the venue ready for the venue to fill up

8:15- be ready to film and make sure everyone knows what they are doing when

8:30- begin filming

10:30/11- gig ends and everyone leaves

11- begin to pack up the equipment making sure not to forget anthing

11:30- pack the car and drive home

after the shoot is done, The footage will be ready to watch back which we will then be able to tell what we did well and what we can improve on. For this band I will be going for an authentic feel with not too fast cuts on the majority of songs and possibly some cross fades throughout their performance as it is a rock indie band and also they do electro indie which is quite different. Special effects can be added post production to make the video fit with their style of music easier.

Very good work here Caragh — I’m pleased with this. You show thoroughness, detail and knowledge in how you build the project, and your scheduling is also very good. Excellent location work too. You could improve even further by including some annotated images or making some sketches of floor plans and so on — it’s easier to demonstrate your shot choices if you do this. That said — well done for excellent creative location work.
