Shot choice

There is many different shot choices to choose from when filming different clips, each tell the same story different ways depending on what is the main focus and who’s viewpoint you are using. the main 3 shots are wide mid and close, wide is usually used as an opening to set the scene so we can tell as an audience what is going on as it makes the plot a bit smoother to know where the characters are. Close shots help to present emotions as we can see the faces clearly and interpret their expressions based on what they can see. Mid shots can be used to introduce a new character or show dialog between people.

Cameras are very useful to represent the human eye and what we would see if we were in the scene. Reactions shots are used after a main shot for example if you film something happening then someones reaction afterwards to show what they’re thinking. When something is happen like a bit of action it is good to use more shots in a shorter space of time to express the action happening and engage the viewers more and it is the same for a less fast pace moment to use not as may shots but longer so it shows the speed.

If you are using a mid or close shot then you can jump back to a wide shot to show the passage of time instead of filming every single bit of what is happening, This works because as humans are brain registers what is happening and fils in the missing parts so that the video its together and makes sense. Another thing that can be used is supercuts which is really good for evidence , you can use a supercut for virtually anything to prove your point and back it up with the evidence. Each technique can be put next to each other to create the film and put it all together neatly.

Good, Caragh. You’ve offered good definitions of each shot size and some of the processes we go through when watching a film. Well done for this. You could improve further by adding sketches or images from professional films — this would really help demonstrate your ideas. Good!
